The Wake Forest Demon Deacons spent the majority of the 1996-97 season ranked in the top 5 of the AP Poll. Led by senior consensus All-American Tim Duncan the Demon Deacons finished 24-7 earning a #3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Duncan finished the season averaging 21 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 assists per game. He was unanimously voted National Player of the Year.
“I think the thing that stood out most with Tim was his work ethic - second-to-none. And then the second thing is his sense of fearlessness. He wasn’t afraid of any situation; he wasn’t afraid of any player; he wasn’t afraid of winning or losing."
